Ans:

III. Answer ANY FOUR of the following
questions in about 60 words each: 4X3=12
18)
Why was the man unhappy with the members of the commission of enquiry in
"The Gentle-men of the Jungle"?
Ans: The man was
unhappy with the members of the commission of enquiry because they were all
animals. The King of the Jungle appointed a commission to settle the dispute
between the man and the elephant. But the members were friends and relatives of
the elephant. They did not listen to the man’s side of the story. Instead, they
supported the elephant completely. Finally, they gave the judgment in favour of
the elephant and allowed it to stay inside the hut. The man, who had built the
hut, was forced to stay outside. He realized that the enquiry was not fair and
was only meant to protect the animals. This made him lose trust in the
commission.
19)
Why did Mara lose his teeth on the right side in "Around a Medicinal
Creeper"?
Ans: Mara lost
his teeth on the right side because of a strange experience he had when he
tried to taste a medicinal creeper. Once, Mara saw a creeper and thought it
might have some special power. He broke a piece of its stem and chewed it.
Immediately, his mouth became numb, and all his teeth on the right side fell
out. He felt a burning and tingling sensation. Frightened by the effect, he realized
that the creeper was no ordinary plant. Later, he shared this incident with
others, which proved that the creeper had strong medicinal properties. His
experience showed how traditional knowledge about plants came through real-life
incidents and observations.
20) What was the routine of the narrator
in the city in "Oru Manushyan"?
Ans: The
narrator was a teacher who had come to the city in search of a job. His daily
routine was very simple. The routine of the narrator in the city was
nothing energizing about the daily practice of the narrator in the city. He
showed the passing workers English as they needed to compose addresses in
English at the mailing station. As they were working individuals, he could show
them just at night. As a rule, his educating went on from nine-thirty till
eleven in the night. Since he earned practically nothing, he dozed the entire
day and woke up at four at night to keep away from the costs of morning tea and
early afternoon lunch.
21) Explain the role of Tulu Rani Hazra
in Babar Ali's school.
Ans: Tulu Rani
Hazra played a very important role in Babar Ali’s school, Anand Siksha Niketan.
She was a kind and dedicated woman who cooked the midday meal for all the
students. Her work ensured that the children, who mostly came from poor
families, got at least one proper meal every day. This helped to attract more
students to the school, as many of them came not only to learn but also to eat.
She did her work sincerely and became an important part of the school’s
functioning. Her service supported Babar Ali’s dream of providing free
education to children in his village. She proved that community support is
essential for the success of such initiatives.
22) Why does the speaker want to be a
tree in the poem "If I was a Tree"?
Ans: In the poem
“If I was a Tree,” the speaker wants to be a tree because trees are free from
discrimination. The speaker faces caste-based inequality in society. He feels
that if he were a tree, he would not be treated as an untouchable. Birds would
sit on his branches, animals would rest in his shade, and the rain would fall
on him equally. The sunlight would not avoid him, and nobody would cut or
reject him because of his caste. Nature treats everything equally, unlike human
society, which is divided by caste and untouchability. By imagining himself as
a tree, the speaker dreams of a life of dignity, equality, and harmony with
nature.
23) Describe the experience of the boy
in the school the poem "The School Boy".
Ans: In the poem
“The School Boy” by William Blake, the boy shares his unhappy experience at
school. He loves to get up in the summer mornings and enjoy the singing of
birds and the company of nature. But when he goes to school, he feels trapped
and miserable. The strict rules, the continuous studying, and the absence of
joy make school feel like a prison to him. His freedom and creativity are
suppressed. He cannot enjoy learning in such an environment. He compares
himself to a bird in a cage that cannot sing happily. The boy feels that
schooling under pressure kills the natural joy of childhood and destroys his
spirit.
IV. Answer ANY THREE of the following
questions in about 100 words each:
3X4=12
24) How did the animals cheat the man
repeatedly in "The Gentlemen of the Jungle"?
Ans: In the
story “The Gentlemen of the Jungle,” the animals cheated the man again and
again using unfair means. First, the elephant entered the man’s hut during a
storm, pretending to need shelter, and then pushed him out completely. When the
man complained, the king set up a commission of enquiry, but all the members
were animals. They supported the elephant and gave judgment in his favour.
Later, when the man built new huts, different animals like the lion, leopard,
hyena, and others occupied them one by one, using the same trick. Each time,
commissions were formed, and judgments were always given in favour of the
animals. The man was never given justice. In the end, the man understood their
cheating tactics. He built a big hut and set fire to it after all the animals
entered, teaching them a final lesson.
25) According to Nasiruddin Sheikh,
'Education is man's true religion', how does Babar Ali's school prove this?
Ans: Babar Ali’s
school, Anand Siksha Niketan, clearly proves that education is man’s true
religion. Babar Ali started the school at the age of nine in his backyard to
teach poor children who could not afford regular school. He and his friends
voluntarily taught students without charging any fees. Over time, the school
grew and provided free education to hundreds of children. For these children,
education became a way to escape poverty, child labour, and ignorance. Babar
believed that real service to God is serving humanity through education. His school
welcomed children from different backgrounds, castes, and religions, treating
them equally. It was not based on money or status but on the belief that
everyone has a right to learn. His work shows that education unites people,
improves lives, and spreads light — just like religion does. It became a temple
of learning for all.
26)
How did Mara and his friend lay a trap and catch a barking deer in "Around
a Medicinal Creeper"?
Ans: In “Around
a Medicinal Creeper,” Mara and his friend once decided to hunt a barking deer.
They went into the forest and selected a narrow path that the deer often used.
There, they dug a deep pit and covered it with thin bamboo sticks and dry
leaves to make it look like normal ground. It was a clever trap to catch the
animal without using weapons. Later, a barking deer passed that way and fell
into the pit. They caught it alive and tied its legs with creepers. This
incident shows the villagers’ deep knowledge of the forest and their smart
hunting methods. They didn’t use modern tools but relied on their experience
and understanding of animal behaviour. This event also shows the close
relationship between the villagers and nature, where they used natural
materials like bamboo and creepers for their work.
27)
Why could the narrator not pay the bill of restaurant in "Oru
Manushyan"?
Ans: The embarrassing experience of the narrator
at the restaurant was that the narrator went to a restaurant to have his food
and when he needed to take care of the bill of eleven annas. However, the owner
felt that the speaker was attempting to trick him, and took steps to gouge his
eyes out. None of the others at the restaurant shown mercy either. The narrator
begged owner to keep his jacket as guarantee and the owner laughed asked off
his jacket, shirt, and shoes. At the point when he needs the author to remove
even the pants, the author begs him for mercy saying he has nothing inside.
This just made everyone laugh loudly and the owner, along fifty others
assembled there, author to strip further saying for a laugh, "There must
be something inside." The author, presently surrendered to his destiny,
begins unbutton his pants; constantly imagine himself standing naked before
others, with his eyes gouged out. We see that the narrator isn't just shamed
yet also uncomfortable. Since he isn't a cheat, it probably been horribly
shameful for him to have understood that he had eaten his food at the
restaurant; however had no money to pay for the food. His shame would have
expanded when the owner of the restaurant considered him as a cheat.
28) "Money is the root of all
evil" Discuss this statement with reference to the poem "Money
Madness".
Ans: The poem
“Money Madness” by D.H. Lawrence shows how money controls human life and
creates evil in society. People value money more than human relationships. A
person without money is not respected, loved, or cared for. People fear poverty
so much that they become selfish and greedy. The poet says that this “money
madness” can destroy humanity if it continues. People judge others based on
their wealth and not their character. Basic needs like food, shelter, and
comfort depend entirely on money. This greed leads to inequality, cruelty, and
the loss of human compassion. The poet warns that if people do not control
their love for money, money will control them and lead to their downfall. He
urges us to share wealth and treat humans with love and equality. Thus, money
truly becomes the root of evil when it replaces humanity.
29)
How do the life forces-sunlight and cool breeze enforce nature's idea of
equality in the poem "If I was a Tree”?
Ans: In the poem
“If I was a Tree,” sunlight and cool breeze play a symbolic role in showing how
nature treats all living beings equally. The speaker imagines himself as a tree
and observes that sunlight shines on every part of the tree without any
discrimination. Similarly, the cool breeze touches every leaf and branch
equally. They do not avoid or favour any part based on caste, status, or
religion. Unlike human society, where people face discrimination and
untouchability, nature gives its life forces freely to all. Rain, birds,
animals, and wind interact with the tree without prejudice. This natural
equality makes the speaker wish to become a tree, where dignity and acceptance are
found. Sunlight and breeze reflect the harmony and fairness in nature, which
stands in sharp contrast to human-made divisions and social injustice.
