THE SCHOOL BOY SUMMARY
WILLIAM
BLAKE
William Blake has
written a beautiful poem "The School Boy". This poem is about a sad
schoolboy. He loves the summer mornings and is fond of seeing the birds and the
trees. We realize that morning time is loaded with hopes. He tracks down the far
off sound of the huntsman's horn lovely. He wishes to sing with the skylark.
So, he enjoys the company of nature.
The school boy feels
unhappy when he needs to go to the school, his morning hours pass sadly.
Therefore, his life at school is also troubling. He isn't interested studies.
Indeed, even the teacher's teaching bore him. The teacher also watches out all
the students with the goal that the students should follow rules and
regulations of the school. His day is spent in sadness, trouble and distress.
He loses all his happiness. The poet compares the school and a tree under which
children sit and learn. The boy says he doesn't discover peace sitting under
this tree moreover.
We as a whole realize
that the pleasure of childhood lies in being free and cheerful like a bird. The
poet compares the school boy as a bird in a cage. He says that as a bird is sad
in the cage so is the boy in school. He says that a boy who is scared by his
teachers can't be cheerful.
Parents should not
deprive child's happiness and freedom for the sake of studies. Depriving them
of joy and freedom is similar to deprive the world of its spring. The poet
compares it and nipping the buds and blossoms from the plants. He is of the
opinion that this world will be a pitiful place without any childhood
happiness.
The poet says that
without a happy childhood, we will just have a winter of sorrow. He beautifully
compares it with nature. We will always be unable to experience delightful
summer.
It is parents’ duty to
see that our kids are cheerful, free and happy. Assuming we need our
generations to be prosperous and happy we need to make their childhood a
cheerful one. The poem teaches that parents should take care of children
happiness.
