II. "A.G. Gardenes considers politeness
over legal punishment" - Explain with
reference to the essay "on saying
please". (1x10=10)
Ans: In the essay “On
Saying Please”, A. G. Gardiner
explains the value of politeness in daily life. He believes that good manners and kind words are more
powerful than laws or punishments.
Gardiner gives an example of a liftman (elevator operator) who got angry and
hit a rude passenger who refused to say “please.” The liftman was punished by
the court for his action. But the passenger, even though he was rude, was not
punished because being rude is not a
legal offence.
Gardiner says that law can only punish physical harm, not
bad behavior or impolite words. However, rudeness can hurt people deeply, even though it is not against the
law. That is why the author says politeness
is more important than legal rules in keeping peace in society.
He believes that a person
who is polite and respectful can win
others’ hearts and create a friendly atmosphere. Saying simple words
like “please,” “thank you,” or “sorry”
can make a big difference. Even though we cannot force people to be polite
through the law, we can encourage good manners by setting a good example and being kind ourselves.
In short, Gardiner’s
message is clear: being polite is a
personal choice, and it helps build a better, more peaceful society.
While the law controls actions, politeness
controls relationships. It is a soft skill that makes life easier and
more pleasant for everyone. Therefore, Gardiner considers politeness more effective than legal
punishment in everyday life.

Describe the early life and struggles of
Milkha Singh. How did his childhood experiences shape his career.?
Ans: Milkha Singh had a very difficult early life, full of
pain and struggle. He was born in a small village called Govindpura, now in
Pakistan. As a child, he lived a simple village life, but everything changed
during the Partition of India in 1947. When Milkha was just a teenager, he
saw his parents and many family members killed during the violence. Before
dying, his father told him to "run for your
life." This painful moment stayed in his heart forever.
Milkha
escaped from Pakistan and came to India as a refugee. He had no home, no money,
and no support. He lived in refugee camps and sometimes even stole food to survive. He also got into bad company and made mistakes. But
later, he realized he had to change his life.
He
joined the Indian
Army, where he got proper food, training, and discipline. It was in the army
that his talent for running was discovered. His officers noticed his speed and
encouraged him to take part in races. From there, he worked very hard, trained day and night, and slowly became one of India’s
best athletes.
Milkha Singh’s painful childhood and
the memory of running to save his life gave him great strength and motivation.
He turned his suffering into determination and success. That is how his
early struggles shaped his career. He became a symbol of courage, hard work, and
never giving up, inspiring millions of
Indians.
III. Critically appreciate the poem
"Still I Rise". (1x10=10)
Ans: The poem “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou is a powerful and inspiring poem about
courage, confidence, and self-respect. In this poem, the
poet speaks strongly against injustice, discrimination,
and oppression, especially faced by Black
people and women. The
poem shows how the speaker rises above all the hatred, pain, and hardships with dignity and pride.
Maya
Angelou uses simple but strong words and images. She asks powerful questions
like “Does my sassiness upset you?” to challenge those who try to bring her
down. She compares herself to dust, oil wells, moons, suns, and oceans, which always rise no matter how much someone tries to
push them down. These comparisons show that her spirit cannot be broken.
The poem also talks about the history of slavery and the
pain her people went
through. But instead of feeling sad or angry, the poet shows hope and confidence.
She says, “I
am the dream and the hope of the slave”, which means she carries the strength
of her ancestors and proves that they have survived and succeeded.
The repeating line “But still, like dust, I’ll
rise” is a message to never give up. It gives strength to anyone who feels
low or hurt. The poem teaches us to face every challenge with confidence, to
walk with our heads held high, and to believe in our own worth.
In simple words, “Still I Rise” is a poem that teaches us to be brave, proud, and hopeful—no matter what happens.

Explain the inspirational elements of the
poem "How did you die"?
Ans: The
poem “How Did You Die?” by Edmund Vance Cooke is full of inspiration
and motivation. It encourages us to face life’s difficulties with courage,
strength, and a positive attitude. The poet says that everyone
faces problems, pain, and failures in life, but what truly matters is how
we deal with them.
The
poem asks not whether you lived in comfort or always succeeded, but instead, how bravely you handled troubles. The
poet believes that failures are not
shameful if you fight them with courage. Even if you fall, getting up and trying again shows your
strength.
One
of the most powerful lines is:
"Did you tackle that trouble that
came your way,
With a resolute heart and cheerful?"
This shows the poet’s message clearly: we should not fear troubles, but face them boldly with a smile.
The
poem uses direct and simple words to speak to the reader. It tells us not to
complain or feel helpless. Instead, we should accept challenges as a part of
life and show our true character by how
we respond.
The
most inspirational part of the poem is its message of hope and resilience. It tells us that being brave in
difficult times is more important than always winning. Life is a test of spirit and determination, not just
comfort.
In
short, “How Did You Die?”
inspires us to stay strong, be
fearless, and face life boldly. It teaches us that true success is not
in avoiding troubles, but in facing
them with courage.

information and communication. Computers are used in all walks of life. They
operate using a central processing unit (CPU) memory & storage devices. The
internet has further enhanced their performance, making tasks easier and faster.

4. Central Processing Unit
(CPU)
5. Internet
Other possible terms include: data, storage devices, memory, programming, and communication.
2. A) "Listening is the basic skill to
acquire all language skills" - Explain. (05)
Ans:
Listening is the first and most important skill in learning any language. Before we
learn to speak, read, or write, we first listen to others. Babies,
for example, learn to speak by listening to their parents and people around
them. This shows that listening comes first in the language learning process.
When we listen carefully, we learn how words
are pronounced, how sentences are formed, and how the tone and meaning change with different
expressions. It helps us understand the correct grammar, vocabulary, and usage of the language. Without listening, it is difficult to
speak properly or understand others.
Listening also improves our speaking skill. The more we listen,
the more we learn how to express ideas correctly and fluently. It helps in
developing better
communication skills.
In classrooms, listening is also key to
learning reading
and writing. Teachers explain lessons, give instructions, and read
stories. If we don’t listen, we miss out on understanding the lesson and cannot
read or write correctly.
Good listening also helps in building concentration, memory, and
understanding, which are useful in
all parts of learning.
In short, listening is the foundation of all language skills. Without strong
listening skills, it is hard to develop speaking, reading, and writing. That is
why we say, “Listening is the basic skill to acquire all language skills.”

the people and development of state

When
people get free and quality education, they can gain knowledge, get good jobs,

Free
healthcare ensures that even poor people can get treatment without worrying
