away for her lost mate and eventually died.
31. According
to Basavanna how do a poor man and a rich man express their devotion to God?
Ans. : The rich people express their devotion to God by
building temples for Siva. A poor man cannot do this, but he still wants to
show his devotion to his Lord. He consoles himself by comparing his own body to
a temple — his legs as the pillars, his body as the shrine where his Lord
resides, and his head as a cupola of gold. He believes that things standing are
not permanent, but what moves shall stay forever.
32. Summarize
the poet’s ideas regarding the wall in the poem “Mending Wall”.
Ans. : According to Robert Frost, in order to maintain
privacy, walls are built, but this leads to disharmony, hatred, differences,
and mental darkness. These walls are often destroyed by natural factors and
hunters. Yet, the neighbours continuously rebuild the wall every spring. The
speaker feels there is no need for the wall, as there is nothing to wall in or
wall out. However, the neighbour insists, saying, “Good fences make good
neighbours.”
33. How
does Gandhiji illustrate that for an act to be moral, it should be free from fear and
compulsion?
Ans. : A moral act should be done with good intention,
not out of fear or compulsion. For example, one should not get up early just
because they are afraid of being late to the office. Living a simple and
unpretentious life only because one lacks the means to live luxuriously is not
morality. True morality lies in choosing to live simply, even if one is rich,
by remembering the misery of the world. An example is King Richard II of
England, who initially granted rights to the people who rose in revolt, but
once the danger was over, he forced them to return the letters.
OR
Write a note on the views expressed by the writer
on the tragic comedy of development.
Ans: The free
market has led to increasing garbage and poses a danger to the environment. It
results in the commercial exploitation of consumers, who are forced to buy extremely
expensive goods and utilities. While there is a variety of commodities to
choose from, including new models of cars and luxury apartments, the roads
remain in bad condition and there is no proper parking space. This reflects the
growth of pockets of private prosperity, while resources that belong to the
public realm face inexorable impoverishment.

couldn’t have lived without giving him a present.

Answer the following questions in seven to eight sentences each : 3 × 4 = 12
40. What
ethical values does Abraham Lincoln want his son to learn in school while
dealing with different kinds of people in society? (Any eight)
Ans. : The boy
should be taught that all men are not just, and for every selfish politician,
there is a dedicated leader. For every enemy, there is a friend. He should not
follow the crowd blindly but have faith in his own ideas. He must learn to
filter all he hears on a screen of truth and be aware of too much sweetness.
There is no shame in tears. He should sell his strength and intelligence to the
highest bidders, but never sell his soul. He must stand and fight for what is
right and have sublime faith in mankind.
41. How
is the precious soil eroded and how can this be prevented?
Ans: Sudden bursts of excessively heavy rain result in a
large run-off of surplus water. This situation is worsened by the slope of the
land, the removal of the natural protective coat of vegetation, the existence
of ruts along which the water can flow with rapidly gathering momentum, and the
absence of any checks to such flow or subsidiary courses. To prevent this,
several measures can be taken — such as terracing of the land, construction of
bunds to check the flow of water, the practice of contour cultivation, and
planting of appropriate types of vegetation.
OR
What
was troubling the French wine growers and silkworm industry? How did Pasteur solve
their problem?
Ans. : Some French wine growers were troubled by a germ
that turned their wine sour. Pasteur showed that by heating the wine to a
temperature of 50–60 degrees centigrade, the germs could be made harmless.
Later, he spent three years of his time and energy tracking down the cause of a
disease that had ruined the silkworm industry. Through these studies, he began
to believe that most, if not all, infectious diseases were caused by certain
bacteria which, if they entered the blood, would multiply and cause disease.
42. What
glimpses of Nazi cruelty did the Frank family experience in concentration Camp?
Explain.
Ans. : When the Nazis invaded the Netherlands, Margot
Frank was called up for deportation. She did not go, and the Frank family
immediately moved into their hiding place, the 'Annex'. Life there was filled
with tensions and quarrels. However, on August 4, 1944, Dutch Nazi policemen
suddenly stormed upstairs and arrested them. They were carried in cattle trucks
to Auschwitz, the Nazi death camp in Southern Poland. At Auschwitz, Otto Frank
was separated from his wife and daughters. Mrs. Frank later died, along with many
others. Anne witnessed the horrifying sight of hundreds of Hungarian Jewish
children standing naked in the freezing rain, waiting to be led to the gas
chambers. A close friend of Anne later saw her cold and hungry, her head
shaved, and her skeleton-like form draped in a coarse garment — before she,
too, died.
OR
Explain
the difference between a mechanical act and an intentional act with examples.
Ans: A moral act must be our own act and must spring from
our own will. If we act mechanically, there is no moral content in our action.
However, such an action would be moral if we think it proper to act like a
machine and do so by using our own discretion. For example, it may be moral for
a king to pardon a culprit, but the messenger who simply delivers the order
plays only a mechanical role in the king’s moral act. However, if the messenger
carries the king’s order considering it to be his own duty, then his action
becomes moral. One who does not use his own intelligence and power of thought
will be swept along like a log of wood, as he cannot understand morality. Only
when we begin to care for our conscience can we be regarded as having stepped
onto the moral path.
XI.
Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below : 1 ×
4 = 4 (2 + 2)
43. A great number of materials have been
used for writing at different times. The earliest Egyptian writing was cut in
stone. Later on, the Babylonians and the Assyrians did their writing with a
pointed instrument on cakes or bricks of soft earth which were later baked, to
make them hard. This was followed by Roman writing which was done on wax with
sharp sticks. Not much later, Egyptains made the discovery of grass from whose
stems they were able to make paper like material. In Europe before the
invention of paper, writing was done on a special sort of thin leather. At
last, came paper, the Chinese invention. In modern days, different varieties of
papers are manufactured for different purposes?
Questions

44. a) The
role of citizens in prevention of Global warming.
Ans: Global warming is one of the most serious challenges
faced by the world today. It refers to the increase in Earth's average
temperature due to the rise in greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and
methane. While governments and organizations are taking steps to control it,
the role of individual citizens is equally important in preventing global
warming. Every citizen can contribute by adopting eco-friendly habits in their
daily lives. Using public transport, carpooling, or cycling instead of personal
vehicles helps reduce carbon emissions. Planting trees and protecting green
spaces increases oxygen levels and absorbs harmful gases. People can save
energy by switching off lights and electrical appliances when not in use.
Citizens should avoid the excessive use of plastic and
choose reusable products instead. Reducing, reusing, and recycling household
items can cut down waste significantly. Supporting renewable energy sources
like solar or wind power is also a smart way to protect the environment. Spreading
awareness about climate change and encouraging others to act responsibly can
make a big difference. Students, teachers, workers, and homemakers—all can
contribute in their own ways. Simple actions taken by millions of people can
bring about a significant change. In conclusion, every citizen must realize
their responsibility in protecting the planet. By making small but consistent
efforts, we can collectively reduce the effects of global warming and ensure a
better future for the next generations.
OR
b) Advantages
of multi-media for students.
Ans. : Multimedia
refers to the use of text, audio, video, images, and animation to present
information. In today’s digital world, multimedia has become an essential tool
in education, especially for students. It helps in making learning more
interactive, interesting, and effective. Through multimedia, complex topics can
be explained in simple and visual ways. For example, science experiments or
historical events can be understood better through videos or animations. It
also helps students remember and recall information more easily.
Multimedia
tools like PowerPoint presentations, educational apps, and online videos make
classroom teaching more dynamic. Students can also access information at any
time and learn at their own pace. It encourages self-learning and improves
computer skills as well. With multimedia, students can participate in virtual
labs, online quizzes, and interactive exercises. It caters to all types of
learners—visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Multimedia also helps students in
developing creativity and communication skills, especially when they create
their own presentations or projects. In conclusion, multimedia is a powerful
educational resource. It enhances the quality of learning and prepares students
for the modern world. When used wisely, it can make education more enjoyable
and effective.

Respected Sir/Madam,
I
am Tushit/Trisha, a student of Government High School, Hassan. I am writing

attention the lack of a proper drinking water facility on our campus.
Our

the absence of clean and safe drinking water. The existing water facility is
either not functional or not suitable for drinking, especially during the hot
summer days.
We
kindly request you to take immediate steps to provide a reliable and safe
drinking water facility in our school. This will not only improve our health
but also help us concentrate better in our studies.
We
hope you will look into this matter at the earliest and take suitable action.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Yours faithfully,

Dear [Friend's Name],
Hope
you are doing well. I’m writing to share with you my wonderful experience of
the educational trip our school recently organized. It was both exciting and
informative!
Our
school arranged a one-day trip to Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum in Bengaluru. We were around 60
students along with 5 teachers. We started early in the morning and reached the
museum by 10 a.m. The journey itself was fun as we sang songs and played games
in the bus.
At
the museum, we saw many scientific models and experiments. The space gallery,
biotechnology section, and fun science zone were amazing. I especially liked
the working models that explained complex scientific concepts in a simple way.
We also watched a short 3D science film which was thrilling.
After
lunch, we visited the nearby Cubbon Park and spent some time enjoying the
greenery and fresh air. We took many group photos to capture the memories. We
returned to Mysore by 8 p.m., tired but extremely happy.
It
was a great learning experience and we all enjoyed a lot. I wish you were there
too! Write back soon and tell me what’s new at your school.
With warm regards,
Your friend,
Bhargav Biradar
