Ans: He compares Juliet’s beauty to nature. Romeo says that
even the bright light of a torch would look dull before the brightness of
Juliet. It looks like she hangs on the cheek of night. Romeo says that the
beauty of Juliet is like a jewel that is hung in the ear of an African
woman. Romeo says Juliet is too beautiful to belong to Earth. Juliet’s
beauty is so vast that she cannot die and be buried in the Earth. The earth
cannot contain her beauty. He further says Juliet is like white snow that is
flying with other common people who belong to the species of crows. Romeo just
wishes t express that Juliet belongs to the divine world and living among the
ordinary and common people. Romeo proposes to find the place where Juliet
stood and wants to touch her blessed hand and make his own rude hand blessed.
Romeo further asks a question whether he ever loved before. He feels this is
true love. Romeo thinks he has never seen a beautiful woman like Juliet before
this night.
15) How is speaker’s passionate love for his beloved brought
out in the poem ‘When You Are Old’?
Ans: ‘When You are Old’ highlights the writer’s true and
unforgettable love for a lady. It presents the concern of a sincere lover for
the future predicament of his lady love. Instead of focusing upon the present
or the past, the poet looks to the future, a future in which the two people in
the poem are destined to be forever apart. The poet imagines that the woman he
loved has become old and regrets her refusing his true love. The poem begins
with the presumption that an old and gray lady is sitting beside the fire
nodding her head. When she recalls her memories, she remembers the soft look
that her eyes had once, and the number of suitors who tried to court her, being
charmed by her elegance and beauty; While admitting that many suitors were
attracted by her youthful beauty; the speaker tries to tell her that he was the
only lover who loved the pilgrim soul in her. He wants her to know that unlike
others he was attracted by the beauty of her inner self and his love would
remain constant even in her old age. He assures her that he loves even the
sorrows of her changing face.
He wants her to understand that over a period of time her
beauty will have faded away and she will have grown old, with her face having
shrunk and her skin having been wrinkled, indicating that she has passed
through many difficulties and sorrows. The speaker concludes visualizing that
she is now bending down beside the dying fire, and she tells herself in a
whisper, in a regretful tone that her true love has fled and is hiding his face
amidst a crowd of stars. Thus, the whole poem is the delineation of the intense
feelings of a true lover.
16) “Heaven is creation of one’s own mind”. Explain with reference
to ‘Heaven, If You Are Not Here On Earth’.
Ans: Heaven is not somewhere else yet inside us and is
everywhere on the world. Assuming we are satisfactory, that is heaven and if we
are terrible that is hell. Nature is also a heaven as we can and heaven in
objects, like trees, moon, and sands of grains and so on. As per Kuvempu, there
is no heaven in all actuality. Entities like 'God', 'Heaven', and the nymphs
are merely creations of man's creative mind. Every one of the various types of
nature like the green forests, the streams that jump down the slopes, the waves
that move across the oceans, the twilight evening, and the quality of reap show
up more lovely than the imaginary descriptions of the man.
17) How does Pablo Neruda contrast how the foot looks before and
after it is condemned to live in a shoe?
Ans: The artist Pablo Neruda presents a
differentiating picture of a kid's foot and a grown-up's foot in order to
outline the progressions that are found in an individual's life as the person
changes from a baby into a grown-up, until his demise. At first, the kid or the
baby's foot has delicate nails of quartz and its toes are small, delicate, and
adjusted at the tips like the petals of certain blossoms. As the youngster
figures out how to walk and starts strolling on stones, pieces of glass, roads,
ladders and the harsh surface of the earth, the kid's foot gets mindful of its
job. It discovers that it is a foot and can't turn into a butterfly or a
swelling natural product on a tree. When it understands that it is a foot, it
is crushed in understanding its goals and gets detained in a shoe. Inside the
shoe, it attempts to understand the world in its own particular manner, alone,
similar to a visually impaired man grabbing in darkness. During this period its
delicate nails of quartz become unclear, are grouped together, and seem as
though eyeless reptiles with three-sided heads, become rough, and are covered
with faint volcanoes of death. These progressions happen in light of the fact
that, when the kid's foot turns into a grown-up's foot, it strolls as the foot
of a man or lady and continues to stroll in the fields as a farmer, or as a
food merchant in the business sectors, or as a digger in the mines or as a
congregation serve or an administration specialist, until its demise.
Accordingly, the foot encounters the difficulties of life and loses its
'delicate' and extravagant petal-like structure.
18) What were the arguments put forth by the prisoner for not
running away from the prison?
Ans: When the king realized that it was a serious
matter to keep a criminal imprisoned for life and it would cause his people a
huge financial burden, he summoned his ministers and asked them to find a
cheaper way of punishing the criminal. The ministers met and after several
deliberations suggested that they must dismiss the guard and save some money.
The king agreed to their suggestion. Soon, the guard was dismissed and they
waited curiously to see what the criminal would do. The criminal came out of
his prison at dinner time, collected his food from the palace kitchen, and
returned to the prison, shut the door on himself and stayed inside.
Later, the Minister of Justice asked him why he
had not run away, as there was no guard to watch over him. They even told him
that the prince would not mind if he ran away. But the prisoner told them that
he had nowhere to go as his character had been ruined and people would
turn their backs on him. Moreover, he had forgotten the habit of working and so
if he ran away he would be forced to work for earning his living. That is why
the criminal refused to run away from prison.
19) How does Vandana Shiva describe the Navadanya Farm?

farming which she started in 1987. Later, when she realized that they needed a
farm for demonstration and training, she set up the Navdanya Farm in 1994 in
the Doon Valley in the lower elevation Himalayan region of Uttarakhand
province. She states that they have conserved and grown 630 varieties of rice,
150 varieties of wheat and hundreds of other species. She also says that they

help farmers make a transition from fossil-fuel and chemical-based mono
cultures to bio-diverse ecological systems nourished by the sun and the soil.
20) How did Tammanna take revenge on Basavaiah through invisible
means?
Ans: When his supporters
advised him to either go to the court or seek the help of the police or ask
some persons to attack Basavaiah and take back his land forcibly, Tammanna hit
upon a unique idea of annihilating Basavaiah through invisible means. He thought
of getting all his experiences composed in the form of ballads and singing them
before the public. When Tammanna started singing ballads through which he told
the people about Basavaiah’s cruelty and his meanness, he became very popular.
Many scholars of folklore and literary critics translated his songs and earned
their share of fame. This entire made Basavaiah shrink in shame. This way,
Tammanna took revenge on Basavaiah through invisible means.
21) What are Jorge Borges views on poetry?
Ans: Borges
accepts that verse is something so personal thus fundamental that it can't be
characterized without misrepresenting it. At that point he says that verse
isn't the sonnet and thinks that a sonnet might be just a progression of
images. Borges thinks that verse is the tasteful demonstration that happens
when the writer composes it and when the reader reads it. He accepts that verse
is a mystical, strange and unexplainable albeit not a limitless occasion. He
accepts that one should feel the poetic event after perusing it in any case the
artist ought to be considered to have fizzled.

23) What benefits according to P. Sainath, has cycling brought
into the lives of rural women?
Ans: P. Sainath presents an eye-witness report of 'cycling' turning
into a social movement. He reveals to us how tens of thousands of women in the
Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu got started to master cycling. When the
movement turned into a major power, each lady in Pudukkottai elected to learn
cycling. Towards the finish of the article, Sainath says, other than giving
women opportunity, mobility, and freedom, it likewise has distinct economic
implications. It supports their family pay. Sainath reports that a segment of
the ladies sells agricultural or different items inside a gathering of towns.
For them, cycling saves time wasted in waiting for bus. Also, it gives them
much more an ideal opportunity to zero in on selling their produce. Thirdly, it
grows the region they wish to cover. In conclusion, it can save their time.
Taking everything into account, he says, cycling achieves changes past economic
gains moreover. 'Cycling' gives them a self-appreciation regard which is

24) How did Dona Laura and Don Gonzalo describe their stories of
their own deaths?
Ans: Dona Laura tells Don Gonzalo that her friend had kept in touch
with her that she had awaited news about Gonzalo for almost a year. Later one
evening, right at nightfall, as the first stars were seeming she went out and
went to the beach side where her beloved had put his life in extreme danger.
She wrote his name on the sand and afterward sat downward on a rock; her gaze
fixed upon the skyline. The waves mumbled their everlasting threnody and
gradually crawled up to the rock where the lady sat. The tide rose with a blast
and cleared her out to the sea. Don Gonzalo tells Laura that the courageous
lover was his cousin and he was exceptionally fond of him. Don Gonzalo tells
her that after the duel the young fellow took shelter in his home being
terrified of the results of a duel with a person highly regarded in that
locality. Then, he tells her that from his home his cousin went to Seville and
afterward came to Madrid. Then he wrote Laura many letters which were taken
away by her parents. He says so since he realizes without a doubt that she
didn't answer his letters by any means. Don Gonzalo then closes the story
saying that, hopelessly, accepting that he had lost his love forever he joined
the army, then went to Africa and there is a trench, met a glorious death
grasping the flag of Spain and murmuring the name of his cherished Laura.
OR
“Your children are not your children”. How is this statement
relevant with reference to ‘On Children’ Explain.
Ans: As per the poet, love includes the main part in God's creation.
Love is not made by us yet is sent from above and it coordinates everything in
our life as it sees it. The poet defines how love works in the close connection
of parenthood. The poet needs us to understand that our job as parents is just
'stewardship' and that is it. In the line ‘Your children are not your children’
Gibran advises parents to know that a child is not a thing to be controlled by
us since we have not made 'life'. A child is everlasting life itself and is a
blessing from the wealth of presence. As parents we may have carried them to
the earth. This has occurred so because we have been decided to be a vehicle
thus, we are nothing else except for a section. It is life's yearning for
itself that carries children to earth, as boys and girls. Since children are
not inert things, we cannot have them. That is the reason the prophet
completely expresses that ‘Your children are not your children.’
