ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:
1) Give an account
of Dicky Dolma’s hardship and challenges she faced before she was qualified for
this venture.
Ans: Dicky Dolma faced mental, money
and body problems and struggles. At the young age of eleven, she lost her
mother and brother. When she was preparing for the big climb, her father was
very sick in bed and she needed much money for his care. Even with these
troubles, she trained for four hours daily to reach her goal.
2) How had Dolma
described her preparedness for the task of scaling Mount Everest?
Ans: From her
childhood she had a strong wish to climb Mount Everest. Every day she looked at
the lovely and grand view of the Mountain. She had strong will, and hard work
helped her. She trained for 4 hours daily. She had a focused mind and was ready
to face troubles. Her wish became stronger when she heard about the new
mountaineering school in Manali. She was only 16 years then. She joined the
school, got ‘A’ grade and was chosen at the all-India level.
3) “With zeal and
determination, there is nothing that one cannot achieve”. What else do you
think is necessary to achieve, besides zeal and determination. Have a
discussion in the class.
Ans: Energy and
strong will are surely two key things in reaching success. But, there can be
many other things too. There can be study problems. If you are serious about a
job in other fields, you cannot forget your studies. If a person is already
working, there will be issues of leave, permission from bosses etc. There can
be family issues. There can be stops from your elders, friends, and relatives.
If you are married, the case can be harder. There can be health troubles
stopping your dream. There can be lack of proper training places as climbing
needs practice. Adding to this can be money problems. So we see that nothing
comes easy on a golden plate.
4) Narrate the
adventurous story of Dicky Dolma in your own words.
Ans: Dicky Dolma
has become a known name as the youngest to climb Mount Everest. She did this
when she was just 19, against many troubles. She faced mental, money and body
problems and struggles. At the small age of eleven, she lost her mother and
brother. When she was preparing for the last step, her father was sick in bed
and she needed much money for his care. Even with these issues, she trained
four hours daily to reach her aim. We can say her dream began in her childhood
as being born in Palchan in Himachal Pradesh, she was always near mountain
peaks, and wished to enjoy the view from the top. A climbing course with an ‘A’
grade at Manali in 1991 helped her greatly. At last, Dolma was selected for an
all-India trip to Mount Everest. For Dolma, it was the ‘dream come true’
moment.
