18) How does Juliet express her passionate
love for Romeo?
Ans: Juliet's love is highly passionate,
divine and more intense towards Romeo. She describes Romeo's charm and calls
him 'day in night'. She personifies and visualizes the night as a bird urges
the arrival of Romeo using the personification 'wings of night' to reach her
fast. Romeo appears as 'whiter than new snow on a raven's back'. Here, Juliet
again personifies 'night' as 'raven'. She favours the arrival of night because
it is night that Romeo had promised to come to her. So, she praises night by
calling it 'gentle night' and 'loving black browed night'. She hopes that the
gentle night would immortalize Romeo after his death by cutting him out into
little stars. She is sure that he makes the face of heaven so bright and
attractive that the whole world would be in love with night and stop
worshipping the 'garish sun'. This is how Juliet highlights and splendid
personality of Romeo and glorifies her love for Romeo.

Bowing hierarchy followed by the Japanese.
Ans: The
writer George Mikes notes that for the Japanese, 'bowing' has become a sort of
obsession. However, he also praises how they bow with the seriousness of a
royal courtier, yet with a graceful, natural style. He adds that the Japanese
follow a complex system of bowing, which determines who bows to whom, how
deeply, and for how long. While this might seem confusing to outsiders, the
Japanese handle it easily, quickly reflecting differences in rank, age, and
social status through their bows.

execute the criminal for committing a murder?
Ans: The King of Monaco could not execute
the criminal because his kingdom was very small and did not have an
executioner. When he asked for help from France and Italy, they demanded a high
fee for the execution. Since the king did not want to spend too much money, he
decided to change the punishment to life imprisonment. However, keeping the
criminal in prison was also expensive. In the end, the king offered the man a
small pension and set him free. This showed how the king struggled to manage
his tiny kingdom’s expenses.

of their children and try not to live their dreams through their children. How
does Khalil Gibran justify this, in the poem "On Children"?
Ans: In the poem On Children,
Khalil Gibran explains that children belong to the future, not to their
parents. He says that parents only bring children into the world, but they do
not own them. Parents may give their love and care, but they should not try to
control their children’s lives. Children have their own dreams and destinies,
and parents should allow them to grow freely. Gibran compares parents to bows
and children to arrows, showing that parents must guide them but let them go
towards their own future.

window to hear her song, the merchant presented himself unexpectedly and a duel
started between them. In the duel, the merchant was badly wounded and Gonzalo
had to conceal himself fearful of the consequences of the duel with a person
highly regarded in the locality. He fled from his hometown to Seville and then
to Madrid. Even though letters, no replies were received from her. Gonzalo,
believing that his love was lost forever, joined the army and went out of the
country. Thus he got separated from his beloved Laura.
28) A healthy competition between Tammanna
and Basavaiah turning into rivalry is the reason for their own destruction.
Elucidate.
Ans: Tammanna and Basavaiah started as
friendly rivals, competing in wealth, fame, and knowledge. At first, their
competition encouraged them to achieve more. However, Basavaiah became jealous
of Tammanna and forcibly took away his land. Instead of fighting back
physically, Tammanna used literature to defeat Basavaiah, gaining more respect
and fame. But soon, he lost interest in competition and realized that rivalry
had no meaning. Basavaiah, unable to tolerate Tammanna’s growing influence,
fell ill and died. This shows that rivalry, when taken to extremes, leads to
destruction rather than success.
29) What are the measures taken by Sheela
Rani Chunkath to improve literacy and mobility in the lesson "Where there

B) Imagine that you are the President of
the Youth Club. You are asked to speak on the impact of social media on Youth.
Prepare a speech in about 120 words using the following information. (5)
Types of Social Media - connecting with
the world - uses of social media advantages and disadvantages - precautions to
be taken by youth while using Social Media.
Ans: Speech on the Impact of Social Media on
Youth
Good morning, everyone.
As the President of the Youth Club, today I would like
to address the impact of social media on youth. Social media platforms such as
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok have transformed the way we connect
with the world. These platforms allow us to communicate instantly, share ideas,
and stay informed about global events.
While there are many advantages of social media,
including fostering creativity, raising awareness, and building social
connections, it also comes with its disadvantages. Prolonged use can lead to
addiction, mental health issues, and a negative impact on self-esteem.
Moreover, the spread of misinformation can be harmful.
As youth, it is crucial to use social media
responsibly. We must protect our privacy, be mindful of the content we share,
and avoid getting caught in the trap of unrealistic standards. In conclusion,
social media can be a powerful tool if used wisely and with caution.
Thank you.
