Ans: The elephant justified occupying the hut
by saying that it was only trying to protect the hut from heavy rain. It told
the commission that the man was weak and did not know how to take care of his
hut properly. The elephant claimed that since it was stronger and wiser, it had
the right to stay inside the hut. This argument was unfair, but the commission,
which was biased, supported the elephant. This story is a satire on
colonialism, where powerful groups take over the land of weaker ones using
false justifications.
15) How did the poet bring out the experience
of the boy inside the school?

in school as dull and lifeless. The boy feels trapped inside the classroom,
where he has to follow strict rules and study subjects that do not interest

exciting. The poet highlights how traditional education can sometimes suppress
creativity and joy, making children feel unhappy and restricted.

creeper as a plant full of mystery and hidden knowledge. The people in the
village believe it has special healing powers and use it for various
treatments. The author recalls his experiences with the plant and how the local

hope, selflessness, and the power of education in changing lives.
19) The poem "If I was a tree" is a
satire on social discrimination discuss.
Ans: The poem If I Was a Tree is a strong
satire on social discrimination. The poet imagines himself as a tree and shows
how nature treats everything equally, unlike human society. The sun, rain, and
birds do not discriminate based on caste or status. However, if the tree is cut
and used for religious purposes, people might refuse to accept it due to social
barriers. This highlights the deep-rooted caste system and unfair treatment in
society. The poem makes the reader question why humans cannot be as fair and
accepting as nature, making it a powerful criticism of discrimination.
20) Narrate the child hood of Fredrick
Douglass.

However, when he looks closely at her face, he sees her deep wrinkles and tired
eyes, which reveal her struggles and suffering. This moment changes his
perspective, and he realizes the harsh reality of old age and poverty. He feels
ashamed of his earlier attitude and develops empathy for the woman. The poem
teaches a lesson about respect and compassion for the elderly.
22) How did the narrator describe Verona city
in "Two gentlemen of Verona"?
Ans: The narrator describes Verona as a
beautiful and historic city in Italy. It is famous for its connection to
Shakespeare’s play "Romeo and Juliet." The city has charming streets,
old buildings, and a rich cultural heritage. However, beneath this beauty, the

of life make it difficult for him to love in the same way. The poem highlights
how experiences and struggles can change a person’s emotions and perspective on
love.
III. Answer ANY ONE of the following in about
200 words: 1x6=6
24) How does Mara sacrifice his life for the
village in ‘Watchman of the lake’?
Ans: In Watchman of the
Lake, Mara is a loyal and selfless man who dedicates his life to protecting the
village and the lake. He believes that the lake is a gift from the king and the
gods, meant to provide water for the people. One day, Mara dreams that the
goddess of the lake warns him that the lake will overflow and destroy the
village. He understands that if the water is not stopped, it will cause great
destruction.
Mara rushes to warn
the king, but the guards do not let him enter the palace. Determined to save
his village, he finds another way to send his message. Finally, when the flood
begins, he realizes that the only way to stop it is to sacrifice himself. He throws
his body in front of the stream, blocking the flow of water. His sacrifice
helps control the flood and saves the village.
Mara’s bravery and
devotion show his deep love for his people. His sacrifice is not just for his
family but for the entire village. His story teaches the importance of
selflessness, duty, and protecting natural resources for the good of all. Mara
remains a symbol of dedication and sacrifice.
OR
‘Fire should be free, Bread should be free,
shelter should be free to all and any body” Do you agree with this solution to
money madness.
Ans: Yes, I agree with
this solution to money madness. Basic needs like fire (energy), bread (food),
and shelter (housing) should be free for everyone. These are essential for
survival, and no one should suffer or die just because they cannot afford them.
In many societies, people struggle due to poverty, even though there is enough
food, land, and resources for all. Greed and inequality make it difficult for
the poor to live with dignity.
If fire, bread, and
shelter were free, there would be less suffering in the world. Homelessness and
hunger would be reduced, and people would not have to worry about their
survival. Instead of spending their entire lives working just to afford food
and shelter, people could focus on education, creativity, and improving
society. A fair system where basic needs are available to all would create a
kinder and more just world.
Money has made people
selfish, and many care only about profit rather than humanity. The poem Money
Madness warns us about the dangers of greed. By ensuring that everyone has
access to life’s necessities, we can reduce the power of money and create a
society based on compassion and fairness.
OR
What noble qualities of Nicola and Jacopo
impressed the narrator?
Ans: In Two Gentlemen of Verona, Nicola and Jacopo
impress the narrator with their noble qualities of hard work, responsibility,
and selflessness. Despite being very young, they show great maturity by working
tirelessly to earn money. They sell newspapers, polish shoes, and run errands
without complaining. Their dedication and strong willpower make them stand out.
What touches the
narrator most is their love and sacrifice for their sick sister, Lucia. Instead
of spending money on themselves, they save every penny to pay for her treatment
in the hospital. They never ask for help or sympathy, showing their strength and
dignity. Their determination to face hardships without losing hope deeply moves
the narrator.
Another noble quality
of the boys is their honesty. Even when they are struggling, they remain
truthful and hardworking. They do not beg or steal but instead earn their
living with pride. Their patriotism is also admirable, as they have suffered
due to war but still hold on to their dreams.
Nicola and Jacopo’s
kindness, devotion to family, and perseverance inspire the narrator. Their
story teaches the importance of love, responsibility, and sacrifice, proving
that even in difficult times, noble qualities can shine brightly.
