Ans: The woman asked the guard to report the other man’s answer because to draw out the reality of the heaven’s gate from the guard.

Ans:  The woman had some strange thought to her mind, her dream had a puzzle in it and she thought about sharing her dream with class 7 students. At last she chuckled again, lay down and went back to sleep and died that night peacefully.

Ans:  If her question was straight forward then the chances of being told the truth seemed to be fifty-fifty.

 

4) How did the old woman use her intelligence?

Ans: The old woman was an intelligent woman. She used her intelligence to do well to others all her life.

 

5) How many guards were standing in front of the gates?

Ans: There were two men guarded the gates, one at each gate and they looked alike.

 

6) What did body-less voice say?

Ans: The body-less voice said that one of them was a liar.

 

7) What did the old woman say the guard to know about the heaven gate?

Ans: The old woman said, “Sir, please tell me what would that other guard say if I asked him which heaven’s gate is?”

 

8) What did the guard answer to the old woman’s question?

Ans: The guard said, “Madam, he would show you my gate”.

 

II. Complete these conversations

A. (The two guards are talking to each other)

G1. Look, the old woman is coming.
G2. She’ll ask you which is the way to heaven.
G1. How will she know who lies to her?
G2. She can’t know that. We look very much alike.
G1. But I think she is capable enough to ferret out the truth from us.

 

B. (The woman has walked to the first guard)

Woman: Sir, are you the liar?

The first guard: What! Who said it?

Woman: The guard.

Guard: No, I’m not.

Woman: How can I believe you? You may be other.

Guard: That’s your problem.

 

C. (The woman goes to the second guard)

Woman: Sir who is the liar, you or him?

Guard: What did he say?

Woman: He says he is truthful.

Guard: He says that to everyone.

Woman: I’m so confused.
