character.
Ans. Berta a beautiful young girl, living in a housed- in square in the
town of the Four Cornstalks in Northern Mexico. Berta had two friends and
neighbours, Tonia and Salome. Berta had a misunderstanding with her fiancé
Fidel, a door-carver, who accused him of flirting with another girl named
Celestina. Berta had a ‘lover’s quarrel’ with Fidel. Fidel couldn’t stand her
hot temper. Berta through jealousy breaks off with her fiancé then, repentant,
tired to win him back with the aid of well meaning friends who only managed to
involve her in further difficulties. Berta had insulted Celestina by calling
her four nosed shrew, later Celestina argued on this matter.
2. Consider Fidel Duran as a
lover.
Ans. Fidel Duran was a young lover and professionally a carver. Fidel
had chastised unfortunately by his fiancée Berta that he was flirting with
Celestina. Fidel being an honest lover always tried to convince her in all
aspects but Berta was jealous and high temper lady and didn’t understand his
words. Even Berta had insulted Fidel by mocking on his work but Fidel didn’t
concern more on those words and as a true lover he requested her to understand
his words. Fidel clarified Berta about the meeting with Celestina for a cause.
Fidel couldn’t stand her hot temper and went away. Later when Fidel heard about
mishap with Berta, he rushed to her and was pleading to get her back. Overall
Fidel was a true lover who always concerned Berta even after when had insulted
him and doubted him.
3. The role of Salome and Tonia in bringing
Fidel back to Berta.
Ans. Salome and Tonia were true friends of Berta. Knowing the reality of
Berta and fiancée both of them always stood with them and helped them in all
aspects of life. Salome was a clever lady as Tonia was younger than both of them
and had distressing habit of whining. There was a misunderstanding between
Berta and Fidel and both of them were separated and not at all ready to talk
with each other. Salome used her smartness and planned to save their
relationship. Salome suggested Berta to pretend to be too sick so that Fidel
should come back to her. Meanwhile Celestina came to fight with Berta but
Salome and Tonia helped her in this matter, latter Salome fought with
Celestina. Fidel was nervous when he came to know about Berta that news was
given to him by Tonia. Tonia and Salome both were really true friends of Berta.
At the end of play Fidel and Berta planned to marry and live happily.
