II. a) Explain Water as "The
True Elixir of Life"? (1 × 10 = 10)
Ans: Water is rightly called the “true elixir of
life” because it is essential for the survival of all living beings. Without
water, life on Earth would not exist. It plays a vital role in maintaining the
balance of nature and supports plants, animals, and human beings. The essay
highlights that water is not only necessary for drinking but also for
agriculture, industries, sanitation, and daily activities.
Civilizations in ancient times
developed near rivers, showing the importance of water in human progress. Rivers,
lakes, and rainfall ensure the fertility of soil, which helps in the production
of food. Water also helps regulate the climate and maintain ecological balance.
However, the essay warns about
the careless use of water. Due to increasing population and misuse, clean water
is becoming scarce. Pollution of rivers and wastage of water are major
concerns. The author emphasizes the need for conservation and proper management
of water resources.
Thus, water is not just a basic
necessity but a life-giving force that sustains the entire world. It is our
responsibility to use it wisely and protect it for future generations.
Therefore, water is truly called the “elixir of life.”

b) Describe the courage, honour and
duty of Baldeo.
Ans: Baldeo, the central character in the story, is a
symbol of courage, honour, and dedication to duty. He works as a watchman
responsible for guarding the railway track in a lonely forest area. His duty is
very important because the safety of trains depends on his alertness.
Baldeo shows great courage when
he encounters a ferocious tiger in the forest. Instead of running away to save
his life, he bravely faces the danger. Armed only with an axe, he fights the
tiger to protect the railway track. His fearless action highlights his bravery
and determination.
His sense of honour is
reflected in his commitment to his work. He understands that neglecting his
duty could lead to a serious accident and loss of many lives. Therefore, he
places his duty above his personal safety.
Baldeo’s dedication ultimately
leads to his sacrifice. Though he loses his life in the struggle, he succeeds
in stopping the tiger from causing harm. His actions save the train and its
passengers.
Thus, Baldeo represents the
qualities of a true hero. His courage, strong sense of duty, and honour make
him an inspiring character who teaches us the importance of responsibility and
bravery.
III. a) What is the theme of the
poem "To India My Native Land"? (1 × 10 = 10)
Ans: The poem “To India – My
Native Land” expresses the poet’s deep love and sorrow for his country, India.
Written by Henry Louis Vivian Derozio, the poem reflects his patriotic feelings
and his pain at seeing India lose its past glory under foreign rule.
The
poet remembers India as a land of great heritage, culture, and pride. In
ancient times, India was respected and admired by the whole world. However,
during the period of colonization, the country lost its dignity and honour.
This decline fills the poet with sadness and disappointment.
The
central theme of the poem is patriotism and a longing to restore national
pride. The poet wishes to bring back India’s lost glory through his poetry. He
feels that even though he cannot change the situation completely, he can at
least try to revive the spirit of the nation.
The
poem also highlights the emotional connection between the poet and his
motherland. It shows how deeply he cares for his country and how much he
desires its progress and respect.
Thus,
the poem is a powerful expression of love for the nation and a call to remember
and restore its greatness.

b) Explain the poem "The Road
Not Taken"?
Ans: “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost is a reflective
poem about choices and decisions in life. The poem describes a traveler who
comes to a point where two roads diverge in a forest. He must choose one path,
knowing that he cannot travel both.
The poet carefully observes
both roads and finally chooses the one that is less travelled. This symbolizes
taking a unique and independent path in life. The choice he makes will shape
his future, and he realizes that every decision has consequences.
The poem conveys the idea that
life is full of choices, and once a decision is made, it cannot be reversed.
The poet also reflects that in the future, he may look back and feel that this
choice made a significant difference in his life.
The roads in the poem represent
different opportunities or directions in life. The less travelled road
symbolizes courage, individuality, and willingness to take risks.
Thus, the poem teaches us to
make thoughtful decisions and accept responsibility for our choices. It highlights
the importance of being independent and choosing our own path in life.
