I. i. a) Write a conversation with the clerk of a college
seeking admission for B. Com I sem. (5)
Ans:
Tom: Excuse me, can I help you?
Clerk:
Yes, good morning. I am interested in applying for the B. Com (Bachelor of
Commerce) program, first semester.
Tom:
Certainly! We are happy to help with your application process. To get started,
do you have an application form with you?
Clerk:
No, I do not. Where can I get one?
Tom: We
have them right here. [Hands you an application form] Please fill this out
completely and attach any required documents, such as your mark sheets from
previous studies.
Clerk:
Okay, great. [Looks at the form] Can you tell me what documents I need to
submit with the application?
Tom:
Sure. For the B. Com program, you will typically need your 10th and 12th
standard mark sheets, a migration certificate (if applicable), a character
certificate from your previous institution, and passport-sized photographs.
Clerk:
I see. Do you have a deadline for submitting applications?
Tom:
The application deadline for the B. Com program is usually around [mention the
deadline date]. However, it is always best to submit your application as early
as possible to ensure you have a spot in the program.
Clerk:
Understood. Is there an entrance exam required for the B. Com program?
Tom:
No, there is usually no separate entrance exam for B.Com. Admission is
typically based on your merit score in your 12th standard exams, particularly
subjects relevant to commerce like mathematics, economics, and business
studies.
Clerk: That
is good to know. Is there anyone I can talk to about the program curriculum or
career options after B. Com?
Tom:
Absolutely. We have faculty advisors who can answer your questions about the B.
Com program and career opportunities. Would you like me to schedule an
appointment for you?
Clerk:
Yes, that would be very helpful.
Tom:
Sure. What are your areas of interest within commerce? Knowing that can help me
connect you with the most relevant advisor.
Clerk: I
am particularly interested in accounting and finance.
Tom:
Perfect. Then I can schedule you with Professor [Name], who specializes in
those areas. What day and time works best for you?
Clerk:
[Checks schedule] Let us see, how about [suggests a date and time]?
Tom:
That works perfectly. I will note it down for you and Professor [Name] will be
expecting you then. In the meantime, feel free to complete the application form
and bring it back along with the required documents.
Clerk:
Thank you so much for your help! This has been very informative.
Tom:
You're welcome! We look forward to receiving your application. If you have any
further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
b) Write a dialogue of enquiry with a medical shopkeeper about
betadine medicine. (5)
Ans:
Lucky:
Excuse me, do you have Betadine?
Shopkeeper:
Yes, of course! Betadine is a popular antiseptic brand. What kind of Betadine
are you looking for?
Lucky: I
am not sure. Can you tell me what options you have?
Shopkeeper:
Sure. Betadine comes in a few different forms. We have the Betadine solution,
which is a brown liquid. This is good for cleaning wounds and cuts.
Lucky:
Okay, that sounds like what I need. Is there anything else I should know about
using it?
Shopkeeper:
Betadine solution can sting a little bit when applied to open wounds, but that
is normal. Just dilute it with a little water if you would prefer a milder
application.
Lucky:
Perfect. What size bottles do you have?
Shopkeeper:
We have small bottles good for home use, and larger ones for hospitals or
frequent use.
Lucky:
The small bottle would be fine for me. Do you have any cotton swabs as well?
Shopkeeper:
Absolutely. We have sterile cotton swabs right next to the Betadine.
Lucky:
Great, I will take those too. Is there anything else I should use besides
Betadine to clean a wound?
Shopkeeper:
It depends on the severity of the wound. For minor cuts and scrapes, Betadine
is usually sufficient. But for deeper wounds, you might want to consider
sterile bandages or wound closure strips.
Lucky:
Okay, good to know. This is all very helpful, thank you!
Shopkeeper:
You're welcome! Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.
ii. a) Write a paragraph on how to get to your friend’s home
from the bus- stand using a few of the prepositions given in the bracket (in
the corner, near, next to, between, opposite to behind, beyond, along, past,
across, down, up, towards). (5)
Ans:
The
bus stand is right next to the train station, so you cannot miss it. From
there, head down the main street which goes straight towards the town center.
My house is on the left, a few buildings past the big bakery with the red
awning. You will not miss it - it is the one with the bright yellow door. If
you get stuck, just call me and I can guide you better!
b) Write instructions to reach State Bank of India from your
college to get a DD using a few prepositions given in the brackets (in the
corner, near, next to between, opposite to, behind, beyond, along, past,
across, down, up, towards) (5)
Ans: Exit the
college campus through the main gate. Head down [along] the main road leading
away from the college. After crossing the traffic light [at/opposite to], take
the second right turn [onto] the street with several shops. The State Bank of
India will be on your left [side] a few buildings down [past] the bookstore.
You can't miss it - it has a big blue sign with the bank's logo. Once inside,
look for the Demand Draft (DD) section, which is usually located towards [the
back] or inquire with a staff member for directions.
II. i) a) Write instructions to your friend about the
preparation of rice. (5)
Ans: First, rinse the rice in a
strainer under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess
starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky. Then, add the rinsed rice
and water to a pot in a 1:1.5 ratio (1 cup rice to 1.5 cups water). You can
adjust slightly for desired texture - more water for softer rice. Bring the pot
to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover the pot
tightly with a lid, and simmer for 15-20 minutes (without peeking!). After
simmering, turn off the heat and let the rice sit undisturbed for another 5-10
minutes with the lid on. This allows the rice to absorb any remaining water and
steam for a fluffy texture. Finally, fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
Enjoy your perfectly cooked rice!
b) Write instructions on the process of preparation of word
file. (5)
Ans:
Open Microsoft Word:

and teacher requesting him to give “Who moved my cheese” Book (5)
Ans:
Telephone Conversation
Ring Ring
Teacher: Don Bosco School, Ms. Tina speaking. How
may I help you?
Student: Good morning, Ms. Tina. This is Toy, a
student from your 9th class.
Teacher: Ah, Toy! Good morning. What can I do for
you today?
Student: I am calling to inquire about the book for
our upcoming assignment. You mentioned we would be reading "Who Moved My
Cheese" by Spencer Johnson.
Teacher: Yes, that is correct. "Who Moved My
Cheese" is a great read that explores dealing with change.
Student: Absolutely. However, I am having some
trouble finding it at the library or local bookstores.
Teacher: I understand. Sometimes finding specific
titles can be challenging.
Student: Do you happen to have any extra copies of
the book in your classroom that you might be willing to lend?
Teacher: Unfortunately, I do not keep extra copies
on hand for students. However, there are a few other ways you might be able to
access the book:
Online Resources: Have you checked online libraries
or e-book platforms? Many libraries offer digital copies of books that you can
borrow with your library card.
Used Bookstores: Sometimes used bookstores have a
wider selection of titles, and you might find a copy there at a discounted
price.
Audiobooks: If reading a physical copy is
difficult, consider listening to the audiobook version. This can be a good
option while commuting or doing other activities.
Student: Thank you so much for those suggestions,
Mr./Ms. I will investigate them.
Teacher: You're welcome. If you are still unable to
find the book after exploring those options, let me know and we can discuss
alternative resources that might be relevant to the assignment.
Student: That is very kind of you. I appreciate
your help!
Teacher: No problem at all. Good luck with your
assignment, and do not hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions.
Student: Thank you again. Have a good day.
Teacher: You too
b) Write an informal telephone conversation between two friends
about a proposed visit to Jog falls on Sunday. (5)
Ans:
Ring Ring…...
Sara: Hey Foxy, what is up?
Foxy: Hey Sara! Not much, just chilling at home. What about you?
Sara: Same here. I was thinking about getting out of the house this
weekend. Any ideas?
Foxy: Ooh, depends what you are in the mood for. Movie marathon? Hitting
the mall?
Sara: Hmm, not really. I was thinking something more outdoorsy, maybe a
hike or something.
Foxy: Perfect timing! I was just looking at pictures of Jog Falls
online. They look incredible!
Sara: Jog Falls? Wow, I have not been there in ages. That could be fun!
Foxy: Exactly! Fresh air, beautiful scenery, maybe a picnic lunch by the
falls. Sound good?
Sara: Sounds amazing! But isn't it a bit far for a day trip?
Foxy: Actually, not too bad. It is about a two-hour drive from here. We
could leave early in the morning and be back by evening.
Sara: Okay, I am sold! So, are you thinking Sunday?
Foxy: Sunday works for me! We can pack some snacks and drinks, maybe
even bring a frisbee to throw around.
Sara: Perfect! Let me check with my family quick, but I am pretty sure I
am free.
Foxy: Sounds good. Let me know in a bit and we can finalize the plan.
Sara: Absolutely! Talk to you soon.
Foxy: See you!
III. i) a) Interpret the family tree of Mr. Thomas (5)
Ans:
Common Elements:
Generations: The tree will show Mr. Thomas' ancestors (parents,
grandparents, great-grandparents, etc.) and possibly his descendants (children,
grandchildren, etc.).
Spouses: The tree will likely show Mr. Thomas' spouse (if any) and
potentially the spouses of his ancestors.
Number of Children: This can indicate family size and potentially any
siblings Mr. Thomas may have.
Birth and Death Dates: These can provide information about lifespans and
potentially historical context.
Locations: Ancestral origins or places of residence might be included.
Possible Interpretations (based on the examples provided):
Thomas Morrison Carnegie: This example suggests Mr. Thomas might be a
descendant of a prominent family with a long history (Thomas Carnegie). The
tree might show multiple generations and marriages within the Carnegie family.
Rev. Tristram Thomas: This example shows a clergyman (Rev.) named
Tristram Thomas who had sons named John, Edmond, and Richard. It suggests Mr.
Thomas might be a descendant of Tristram or one of his sons.
William Thomas: This example shows a William Thomas with two wives and
children from both marriages. The tree might detail Mr. Thomas' lineage within
this family structure.
Remember:
The interpretation will depend on the specific information included in
Mr. Thomas' family tree.
Look for patterns, repeated names, locations, or professions that might
offer clues about Mr. Thomas' heritage.
If you can provide more details about Mr. Thomas' family tree, I can
offer a more specific interpretation.
b) Interpret the given pie-chart in India age breakdown in a
paragraph (5)
Ans:
Age
Distribution in India
This
pie chart illustrates the age breakdown of India's population. It is evident
that the largest segment, representing approximately [percentage], falls within
the [age range] category. This suggests a [positive/neutral/negative] trend
towards a [young/mature/aging] population. The next largest segment encompasses
the [age range] age group, accounting for roughly [percentage]. This indicates
a significant presence of [working-age adults/youth/elderly] in the country.
The remaining pie slices represent progressively smaller portions of the
population, with [percentage] falling under [age range], [percentage] under
[age range], and so on. This data provides valuable insights into India's
demographic makeup and can be used for planning purposes related to education,
healthcare, and workforce development.
Please
replace the bracketed information with the specific details from your pie chart
to create an accurate interpretation.

IV. i) a) Write a report of a Group Discussion held among five
students on the topic-“Nationalism”. (5)
Ans:
Report on Group
Discussion: Nationalism
Topic: Nationalism
Participants:
[Student 1 Name]
[Student 2 Name]
[Student 3 Name]
[Student 4 Name]
[Student 5 Name]
Moderator: [Name of
Moderator (if applicable)]
Date: [Date of
Discussion]
Summary:
A group discussion
was held on the topic of "Nationalism" among five students. The
discussion explored the concept of nationalism, its positive and negative
aspects, and its relevance in today's world.
Key Points Discussed:
Definition of Nationalism: The
students began by defining nationalism as a sense of pride and loyalty towards
one's nation. It often involves a shared culture, history, and language.
Positive Aspects: Several students
highlighted the positive aspects of nationalism. It can foster a sense of unity
and belonging, promote national development, and encourage citizens to
participate in their government. Examples included national pride in cultural
achievements or collective action during times of crisis.
Negative Aspects: Others discussed
the potential pitfalls of nationalism. It can lead to feelings of superiority
and xenophobia towards other cultures. Extreme nationalism can contribute to
political instability, war, and suppression of minority groups. Students
mentioned historical examples of nationalism leading to conflict.
Nationalism in the Modern World: The
group debated the role of nationalism in the globalized world. Some argued that
national identity remains important, while others emphasized the need for
international cooperation to address global challenges like climate change or
pandemics.
Finding Balance: The discussion
concluded with the importance of finding a balance between healthy national
pride and global cooperation. Nationalism can be a positive force for unity
within a country, but it should not come at the expense of inclusivity and
international engagement.
Conclusion:
The group
discussion provided a diverse perspective on the concept of nationalism. It
highlighted the importance of understanding both the positive and negative
aspects of this complex phenomenon. Ultimately, the students agreed that a
balanced approach is necessary to promote national well-being and contribute to
a peaceful and cooperative global community.
b) Write a short speech on “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. (5)
Ans:
A Cleaner India:
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
Good morning
everyone,
Today, I want to
talk about a movement that concerns each and every one of us – the Swachh
Bharat Abhiyan, or Clean India Mission. Launched in 2014, this initiative aims
to achieve a clean and healthy India by tackling the challenge of sanitation
and waste management.
Imagine an India
where our streets are free of litter, our waterways aren't choked with waste,
and our communities are healthy and thriving. That's the vision of Swachh
Bharat Abhiyan. It's not just about cleaning our surroundings; it's about
changing mindsets and fostering a culture of cleanliness.
But why is this
mission so important? Poor sanitation has a devastating impact on public
health, especially for children. It also affects tourism and economic
development. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan aims to break this cycle by providing access
to toilets, promoting waste disposal practices, and encouraging community
participation.
The success of
this mission lies on all our shoulders. We can contribute by keeping our
surroundings clean, using dustbins, and encouraging others to do the same. We
can hold cleanliness drives in our neighborhoods and support initiatives that
promote hygiene awareness.
Let's not forget
the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi, who emphasized the importance of cleanliness.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is not just a government program; it's a call to action
for every citizen.
Together, let's
make India a cleaner and healthier nation, one step at a time. Thank you.
ii) a) Describe your ‘favourite teacher’ using appropriate
adjectives. (5)
Ans:
My favorite
teacher was always incredibly enthusiastic about history. Her
lessons were never boring, and she made the past come alive with her creative
storytelling and engaging activities. She was also very patient
and supportive, always willing to answer questions and help me
understand difficult concepts. Her dedication and inspiring
passion for history left a lasting impression on me. Brilliant: This teacher
possesses a deep understanding of mathematics and can explain even the most
challenging concepts in a clear and concise way.
Engaging: They make math come
alive by connecting it to real-world applications and using innovative teaching
methods. Perhaps they incorporate games, puzzles, or technology to keep
students interested.
Patient: They understand that
math can be frustrating for some students and offer clear explanations,
examples, and opportunities for practice.
Enthusiastic: This teacher has a
genuine passion for math and their enthusiasm is contagious, motivating
students to learn and explore the beauty of the subject.
Encouraging: They celebrate
student successes, no matter how small, and offer positive reinforcement that
builds confidence in their math abilities.
Logical: This teacher can
break down complex problems into manageable steps and help students develop
critical thinking skills to solve them.
Creative: They use a variety of

a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking
questions and making mistakes without fear of judgment.

is not only knowledgeable but also passionate about helping students develop a
love for and a strong foundation in math.
b) Describe a beautiful tourist place that you visited in your
life. (5)
Ans:
Gol Gumbaz, a towering monument in Vijayapura, India, would have left
you awestruck. Imagine a colossal dome, the second largest in the world built
with Islamic architectural influences, reaching majestically towards the sky.
Its dark grey basalt exterior, intricately detailed, would have given you a
sense of its historical significance.
As you stepped closer, the sheer size of the structure would have become
even more apparent. The four octagonal towers flanking the corners, each capped
with a smaller bulbous dome, would have added a touch of symmetry and grandeur.
Stepping inside the cool interior, you would have been greeted by a
vast, high-ceilinged hall. The perfect acoustics would have allowed you to
experience whispers travel across the chamber, a testament to the architectural
marvel. Sunlight filtering through the small openings at the base of the dome
would have cast an ethereal glow on the intricately carved plasterwork adorning
the walls.
In the center of the hall, you might have found yourself drawn to a
square podium, topped with an ornate wooden canopy. This would be the cenotaph,
a ceremonial tomb marking the final resting place of Mohammed Adil Shah, the
sultan who commissioned the construction of Gol Gumbaz.
Standing in that vast, echoing chamber, surrounded by history, you would
have undoubtedly felt a sense of awe and respect for the craftsmanship and
vision behind this architectural masterpiece. The experience of visiting Gol
Gumbaz would have been a unique blend of history, architecture, and wonder.
