THE CHIMNEY SWEEPER
WILLIAM BLAKE
SUMMARY
A child describes
his story that when he was very young, his mom passed on and his dad sold him.
He was child to such an extent that he could hardly cry. He was child to such
an extent that he didn't even know how to weep. The repetition of the word
weeps! isn't just for poetic impact yet to recommend that in the event that he
was somewhat full grown, he might have wept and argued his dad not to sell him.
Anyway being unequipped for communicating his pain, he was sold. From that day,
he clears the chimney and stays in bed of soot.
The child informs
us concerning another little fellow in particular Tom Dacre. He cried a lot
when his head was shaved which had curly hair that resembled sheep's back. The
utilization of sheep's back represents two things. First that he had thick hair
in light of the fact that there was no one to deal with him. Also, similar to
the sheep, the child was innocent. To support him, the first child says
"Hush Tom! Never mind" as this is being done so the soot of the
chimney may not ruin his white hair.
Tom felt much
improved and got peaceful. In that night he sees in dream a large number of
sweepers like Dick, Joe Ned and Jack who were looked up in the black coffins.
This line is extremely profound and representative. In this stanza, the child
takes the names of certain people who were his companions and died. He tells
how a great many little boys who worked in chimney died. They passed on at a young
age.
An Angel appears
close to the black coffins of those young chimney sweepers with a bright key. The
angel opens the coffins and frees them all. The children at that point go to a
green plain or meadow. They run, laugh, jump and wash in a river and sparkle in
the Sun, they are free and enjoy at their full.
They are naked and
white for example free from the "clothes of death" and wonderful like
the angels. They fly and rise above the clouds and play in the breeze like the
heavenly messengers. The angel at that point reveals to Tom that on the off
chance that he becomes or remains a good child, he will have God as his protector (father) and will appreciate such a lot of that he won't ever want more joy.
The next day Tom
awakens. He is changed after seeing the dream. He rises in dark and goes to
work however the morning was cold. He was glad and warm. He accepted that if
all carry out their responsibility, they need not fear harm. Think, how
incredible is the working.
