Robert Frost
C. Speaking, Reading and Writing
Work with your partner. Take turns to ask or
answer these questions. Explain to him or her why you think your answer is
correct. Quote from the poem if necessary. Write down your answers.
1) Two words catch your eye in the first line. They bring
before you a beautiful picture. What words are they?
Ans: Two roads diverge and yellow wood are
two words to catch our eye in the first line. The poet remains in a spot where
the street he is voyaging separates into two, as he remains at go across
streets throughout his life. It is the pre-winter season as the leaves on the
trees have turned yellow.
2) Where and when does a forest turn golden yellow?
Ans: The forest turns golden yellow in the
forest during autumn season.
3) The poet stood for long at a point where two roads
forked. (True / Not True) Read out to your partner the lines from the poem.
Ans: It is true that the poet stood for long
at a point where two roads forked.
4) “I could not travel both and be one traveller”, Says
the poet. What does he mean by this? What word expresses his regret about this?
Ans: “I could not travel both and be one
traveler”. The poet laments saying that he was unable to go on both the streets
and go through his entire time on earth as an explorer He realizes that one
must have an objective throughout everyday life and to this end, one must
settle on decisions. “Sorry” word expresses his regret about this.
5) Complete this English proverb. “You cannot have your cake and eat it too!”
6) So, what did the poet do? (See stanza 1. Refer to your
answer to question 4)
Ans: The poet knows that he could not travel
on both the roads and one must have a destination in life and he decides to
choose which is less travelled.
7) The poet took the other road. Why did he do that?
Ans: The poet chose less travelled road
because he didn’t want to follow others and dependent on them. Here poet wanted
to have broad thinking to choose his path to gain success by himself.
8) What, had worn the other road more or less the same?
Ans: The poet was voyaging nobody had
trampled on both of the two in light of the fact that the leaves that lay on
the streets had not gotten dark from the track of anybody's strides.
9) Once the second road looked to him more attractive.
Then both roads looked equally attractive. Explain this in your own words.
Ans: It was hard to settle on a decision in
light of the fact that both the road seemed alluring to the poets. On a more
profound level both the decisions throughout his life would give him what he
needed from life-might be various things on various ways so he had thought
about what things he needed more and pick in like manner.
10) The poet expresses a wish and a doubt, in these two
sentences. Complete these sentences.
Ans: I will come back to travel on another road.
But doubt if I should
ever come back.
12) According to the poet, one should always
take the road travelled by others before (True / Not True).
Ans: Not True.
C. Writing:
Read this dialogue and supply the missing words:
Amar : I’m sorry I
took science in
high school
Akbar :
Why do you feel so sorry about it, friend? I also took a Science.
I regret it a bit too.
Antony : Yes, but why do
you like it so
much. Amar?
Amar : I now know I don’t
have the aptitude for Arts?
Akbar : So you
regret now taking
Arts, do you?
Antony : Then why did you
take Science?
Amar :
Very few students took Science then. So Science seemed attractive at that time.
